EU Suspends Tariff Retaliation on US Tariffs for 90 Days to Open Negotiations

(Brussels): European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Thursday that the European Union will suspend its planned retaliatory measures against US tariffs for 90 days. This is according to a Reuters news agency report on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

This decision was made to provide an opportunity for negotiations after US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of his tariffs on most countries for the same period.

However, she emphasized that the EU would not hesitate to implement these measures if ongoing negotiations do not yield satisfactory results. Ms. von der Leyen added, "As I said before, all options remain on the table."

It should be noted that one day before this suspension decision, EU member states strongly supported this bloc's initial retaliatory measures package in response to tariffs on steel and aluminum imposed by the Trump administration.
